Gone fishin'!

Meet Alan. He's a robust chinook salmon. Well, he used to be a robust chinook salmon. He possibly even swam around in beautiful waters like this. But he decided instead to bite my hook and become my very first fish.

He fought long and hard as I reeled him in. I don't reel fish in quietly, so there was a lot of "Oh my god!!" and "He's going to get away!!" Cam managed to snag him in the net and bring him onboard our little boat where he flopped vigorously around on the floor before I bravely took the "fish bopper" and gave him a bit of a wack... all the while I wailed "I'm sorry! I'm SORRY!!" at the top of my lungs. The five or six other fishermen in our vicinity were just silently staring at us from their boats and probably wondering what all the commotion was about.

Back on land Cam cleaned the fish very nicely and we had a couple salmon steaks for dinner that night. The rest we hickory smoked in the backyard, which filled the neighbourhood with a lovely pungent odor.
