One last favourite...

I've found another great photography site that has some truly inspirational galleries (everything from edgy fashion photography to abandoned buildings).

They've got tips for Halloween photography too!

October Favourites

Inspired by my sister's blog, I've decided to do a short list of my October favourites...

Since moving to my new office, which is much farther away than my previous workplace, I've had to start commuting via bike daily. Which I love. It's the best part of my day.

It's made so much easier with this fella, which I found at MEC. It's the perfect size and sits comfortably on my shoulders. Not always an easy thing to find when you're short!!

This new worksite also has NO COFFEE shops in the area. I didn't think this was possible in coffee-shop-obsessed Victoria, but apparently it is.

Enter: The Bodum.
I love him.

Bite-sized apples from Cam's parents' backyard!

This stuff keeps Cam happy:

Ok, ok, it's actually Jersey's. He's been having tummy troubles, and this stuff works miracles. One happy kitty.

The lovely scarf and notebook are from Cam's parents, who just returned from a fantastic trip through Italy.

Last but not least is one of my favourite books: Lullabies for Little Criminals. Although not always an easy read, the voice of the main character (a young girl living on the streets of Montreal) is so strong and drew me right in.

‘Tis Cyclo-cross Season

The Cross on the Rocks series has made me want to give the sport a try. Though I realize I don’t have the refined skillz to bunny hop hay bales…

Or lithely tip toe over barriers like a mud-splattered ballet dancer…

These are some shots from the cyclo-cross race in Duncan on Sunday. Cam was there to do some wrenching, while I spent my time crawling through the underbrush and standing on manure piles (yes, really).
It was a sunny, cloudless day of 14 degrees. Perfect cross weather!

The Battle Grounds... this is only half the field the race course went through:

From the fields the course plunged into the woods, where rogue pumpkins abound...

The boys set up the Rider's home base

And Cam got to work getting the team's bikes race-ready.

Of course, my favourite race was the kids/beginners. They were smokin' fast!

And very determined!

Then the big boys came out to play... (that's our boy Justin off the front!)

Of course, like any good race, there were some crashes.

I got a great vantage point from atop a manure pile at the far side of the course:

It was a fantastic race for spectators...

... although some were less interested in the antics of people on bicycles.

Mama's Visit

My Mum was in town this past weekend for a work-related conference up in Sidney. She had some spare time on Sunday morning so we took a trip over to Butchart Gardens to see les fleurs!

It was my first time at Butchart and I am definitely going back in the Spring/Summer. Heck, I'll go back at Xmas when they have their annual lights show!

These flowers below belong in a Dr. Seuss book! They're my favourites...

Horton Hears A Who??

Mamma in the Japanese gardens. She didn't fall in.
