‘Tis Cyclo-cross Season

The Cross on the Rocks series has made me want to give the sport a try. Though I realize I don’t have the refined skillz to bunny hop hay bales…

Or lithely tip toe over barriers like a mud-splattered ballet dancer…

These are some shots from the cyclo-cross race in Duncan on Sunday. Cam was there to do some wrenching, while I spent my time crawling through the underbrush and standing on manure piles (yes, really).
It was a sunny, cloudless day of 14 degrees. Perfect cross weather!

The Battle Grounds... this is only half the field the race course went through:

From the fields the course plunged into the woods, where rogue pumpkins abound...

The boys set up the Rider's home base

And Cam got to work getting the team's bikes race-ready.

Of course, my favourite race was the kids/beginners. They were smokin' fast!

And very determined!

Then the big boys came out to play... (that's our boy Justin off the front!)

Of course, like any good race, there were some crashes.

I got a great vantage point from atop a manure pile at the far side of the course:

It was a fantastic race for spectators...

... although some were less interested in the antics of people on bicycles.
